*Call to Worship                                  (Adapted from Psalm 146)

     Leader:    Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,

                        whose hope is in the Lord their God,

       People:    who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in                            them;

       Leader:     who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the

                        oppressed; who gives food to the hungry.

       People:    The Lord sets the prisoners free;

                        the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.

       Leader:     The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord                                loves the righteous.

       People:    The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all                            generations.  Praise the Lord!

*Call to Confession               (adapted from Jeremiah 31.33-34)

    This is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel, says the Lord:  I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.  I will forgive their evil deeds, and I will remember their sin no more.  In penitence and faith, let us confess our sins to almighty God.

*Silent Prayer

*Prayer of Confession

    Our merciful God, we confess our sinfulness this day and admit that we do not always live according to your will.  We are often selfish and ignore the needs of others.  We corrupt what is good and allow what is evil to gain a foothold in our lives.  Forgive us, Father, and give us the strength to repent of our sins and be renewed by the transforming of our hearts and minds in the image of Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
